WoolSafe™ Approved Carpet Cleaning at its Best

Proclene are WoolSafe™ approved, recommended, trained and qualified, we have been specialising in wool carpet cleaning for over 40 years and have worked with WoolSafe™ since 2013 to ensure that we remain relevant, safe and knowledgeable. Working with them as an approved WoolSafe™ carpet cleaning specialist provides us with more backup and support for when searching for new technology in cleaning products and processes. Should we ever encounter an issue, we know we have that support and extra technical advise.

Wool carpets need specialist cleaning procedures and processes to ensure safe long lasting cleaning that will not degrade the wool fibres, will not shrink will not take days to dry and definitely will not cause health issues from things like mould growth. All of the cleaning products we use when cleaning wool carpets and other natural fibres and vigorously tested by WoolSafe™ prior to being approved.

The testing process ensures your wool carpets, rugs and upholstery last. The list below points out just some of the requirements that must be met when it comes to the cleaning products we use.

  • no deterioration of the wool fibres
  • Colours remain stable
  • Does not re-soiling faster than new
  • Does not dissolve the wool
  • Does not rot the wool
  • Does not contain optical brighteners
  • Does not contain oxidising agents
  • Does not contain reducing agents
  • pH remains stable and levels are safe for wool
  • Does not leave behind a residue

No matter how much testing WoolSafe completes, we also do our very own tests before using any product on a clients carpet or sofa, we need to know that we can work with a product and that it is effective, safe and efficient. We need peace of mind so that we can give our customer peace of mind.

The Wool Safe Cleaning Process

Under a microscope wool fibres have scales, it is these scales that hide the soil, when these scales are clogged your wool carpets tend to start looking discoloured and tired, this is because the wool can no longer hide the soil under it's scales, they simply can not take any more soil.  The soil can now only accumulate towards the surface and therefore you start noticing the difference from it's original colour.

We flush out and extract the soils, including under the scales, thereby resetting the filtration system of the wool fibres, enabling them to start from scratch again.

Wool Safe cleaning of carpets is not just about the cleaning solutions being WoolSafe™ approved, it is also about the process used and the skill of the carpet cleaning specialist. The wool safe cleaning technician will need to be able to skillfully clean your wool carpets using the correct temperature, water pressure and agitation technique to avoid causing damage such as fuzzing, piling, shrinkage, mould and many other know problems associated with incorrect cleaning of wool carpets, rugs and upholstery fabrics.

As an example, if you clean velvet pile or Berber carpet with water that is too hot, you carpets will fuzz and then they will need to be shaved to remove the majority of it. If you agitate the same type of carpet, then the same will happen as well as piling, again will need to be shaved to improve.

Should the pressure be too high for the carpet type, pile depth and density, the water will go through the backing of the carpet causing issues such as delamination which will result in car[pets that ruck and crease, especially in main thorough fare. If the pressure is too low then you will not achieve a thorough clean no matter how much vacuum power you have.

There are so many things to take in to consideration when having wool carpets and upholstery cleaned, luckily we have the skills, knowledge and experience to take that worry away from you, we don't even need to think about these things because we have been doing it so long our minds work on auto pilot and can instinctively alert us when it spots an issues or cause for concern.

We truly do know what we are doing, so why wouldn't you want to use Proclene.
